120 ARTISTS, 85 NATIONAL PARTICIPATIONS, 23 COLLATERAL EVENTS  AND A SPECIAL PROJECT

“Viva Arte Viva is an exclamation, a passionate outcry for art and the state of the artist”. This is the suggestion, in the words of the curator Christine Macel, at the base of the 57th International Art Exhibition held in Venice from May 13th to November 26th 2017 hosting 120 artists, 85 National Participations, a Special Project and 23 Collateral Events.

The official catalogue of Biennale Arte 2017 titled Viva Arte Viva is composed of two volumes, for a total of about 800 pages, and presents with texts and images the artworks exhibited at Viva Arte Viva and the exhibitions presented in the National Pavilions.
Volume I is dedicated to the International Exposition curated by Christine Macel, with 4 pages focused on each invited artist: a critical essay and a statement by the artist illustrate and support the images of the exhibited works and other images that describe the artist’s practice. Each section ends with a list of book titles, personally selected by the artist as useful and enlightening for “making art”.
Volume II is dedicated to National Participations, the Special Project and the Collateral Events, introduced, in individual cards, with a statement, accompanied by images, by central figures of the curatorial teams.
