BREATH, STRATEGY AND SUBVERSION FOR THE ACT OF CREATION

From June 22nd to July 1st 2018, choreographers from all over the world represented in Venice the essence of dance as nourishment for the mind and the intellect, leading the spectators to discover unfamiliar places and new mental and emotional landscapes: from the Golden Lion Meg Stuart, to the Cape Verde choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas, the winner of the Silver Lion award, from the young dancers and choreographers of the Biennale College Danza, to great protagonists such as Deborah Hay, Israel Galván and Frédérick Gravel.

The catalogue of the 12th International Festival of Contemporary Dance follows the Biennale Danza 2018, including world premieres, meetings with the public and film and documentary screenings, tracing the physiognomy of the shows on the bill, with a focus on poetics, practices and singles personalities of the invited artists. Through critical texts, biographies and quotes by the artists, the catalogue spans the wide horizon across which choreography is developing today and highlights the dynamics and contemporary evolution of the figures of the dancer and choreographer.
