Is it expressed in the people we choose to collaborate with, the mediums we innovate inside, from where we work, or in the attempts to erode the categories that define us or something other? Isn\u2019t art making, the very act of breaking boundaries, borders and barriers? Isn\u2019t it a way of re-imagination and a new way of thinking? Art, then perhaps the liminal space of the in-between.\u201d (Wayne McGregor)<br \/>\nThe catalogue of the <strong>Biennale Danza 2022<\/strong> opens with the introductions by the President of La Biennale di Venezia Roberto Cicutto and the Artistic Director Wayne McGregor, followed by Felicity Callard, a professor of human geography at the University of Glasgow, who reflects upon the concept of <strong><em>Boundary-less<\/em><\/strong> in her essay <em>Models of support<\/em>.<br \/>\nThe book continues with a series of interviews by Uzma Hameed with Saburo Teshigawara, Roc\u00edo Molina, Trajal Harrell, Marrugeku (with Paul Kilbey) and Diego Tortelli. Each interview is introduced by pages that play on the concept of boundary, with transparencies that invite the reader to look beyond the page. The book illustrates the artistic careers of the performers, divided into five different typologies of <em>less<\/em>: <em>Body-less<\/em> (Teshigawara), <em>Time-less<\/em> (Molina), <em>Space-less<\/em> (Harrell), <em>States-less<\/em> (Marrugeku) and <em>Other-ness<\/em> (Tortelli).<br \/>\nFollowing the motivations for the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award to Saburo Teshigawara and the Silver Lion to Roc\u00edo Molina, the catalogue continues with a section dedicated to the performances in the programme.<br \/>\nThe performances of the <strong>16th International Festival of Contemporary Dance<\/strong> are illustrated and described in photographs, detailed credits and directors\u2019 notes, and biographies of the artists. Furthermore, each performer was asked to answer three questions about the theme of the Festival and the meaning of <em>boundary-less<\/em> in dance. Reflecting boundaryless-ness, the section features pages that reproduce the dichroic effect of the Festival\u2019s poster.<br \/>\nThree special installations enrich the Festival\u2019s programme. The catalogue also documents an important <em>Collaboration<\/em> dedicated to the famous American choreographer and dancer Merce Cunningham: the screening of the film by Tacita Dean and the performance <em>EVENT<\/em>, in which the dancers of <strong>Biennale College Danza<\/strong> will take on the choreographies presented by Cunningham in Piazza San Marco in 1972, during the 35th International Festival of Contemporary Music.<br \/>\nThe section of the catalogue dedicated to the Biennale College Danza presents the two works by the choreographers Edit Domoszlai and Matteo Carvone.
