THE THEATRE ON THE EDGE BETWEEN ACTOR AND PERFORMER

The 46th International Theatre Festival, run in Venice from July 20th to August 5th 2018, investigated the distinction between the role of the actor and the performer. Choreography, direction, music, the plastic arts, juggling, puppet art, mime, met and intersected in the over thirty shows presented at the Festival by international authors, including Clement Layes, Gisèle Vienne, Thom Luz, Italians RezzaMastrella and Anagoor, respectively winners of the Golden Lion and the Silver Lion.

The entire concept of the catalogue follows the track traced by the Biennale Teatro 2018; a sort of collection of identikits dedicated to every artist involved, as if we analysed documents to find someone mysteriously disappeared.
The catalogue directly interrogates the Festival protagonists, it uses their calligraphy too in order to identify them, asks them for help in looking for them and naturally becomes a self-presentation tool. Accompanied by portraits that represent one of the possible way of seeing them from the outside, the volume describes both the artists participating in the Festival programme and the Masters of the Biennale College Teatro, as well as the winner of the Registi Under 30 call promoted by the Biennale Teatro last year, together with the one that received the special Mention. The catalogue has a singular graphic layout, with the print characters that seem to support the work of a potential detective, that zooms in or reduces the details trying to figure out the emotional profile of the artists.
