AN EXHIBITION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AT THE HOTEL DES BAINS: THE CATALOGUE

Celebrating the 75th Venice International Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia organised the exhibition Il Cinema in Mostra  Volti e immagini dalla Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica 1932 – 2018, set up in the historic Hotel des Bains at Lido di Venezia, reopened to the public for the occasion.
The catalogue is a story by images, a touching scrapbook of the oldest and most prestigious film festival in the world, a collection of posters, film frames, vintage photographs that immortalise the stars, the public and the iconic places of the Festival, from Palazzo del Cinema to Hotel Excelsior. The book follows each edition, from 1932, the year of the first International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art, passing through the First and Second World Wars, to the protests of the Sixties; from the profound changes implemented by the 1998 reform until today. It’s a catalogue that not only relives the moments of the Biennale Cinema, but which brings to life the most recent history of Italy and its passion for the seventh art.
