La Biennale di Venezia, to mark the 125th anniversary of its foundation, presented The Disquieted Muses. When La Biennale di Venezia Meets History, an exhibition by the Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts – ASAC, held in the Central Pavilion at Giardini, from August 29 to November 4, 2020.

This is the first exhibition curated by all the Artistic Directors of La Biennale’s six Departments (Art, Architecture, Cinema, Dance, Music, Theatre): Cecilia Alemani, Hashim Sarkis, Alberto Barbera, Marie Chouinard, Ivan Fedele, and Antonio Latella.

In the foreword to the catalogue, Cecilia Alemani underlined the fact that “The Disquieted Muses is the first exhibition in the history of La Biennale conceived at the intersection of the six disciplines that form its main research areas. Events and episodes in the history of La Biennale are in dialogue with the history of the 20th century, and retrace the moments when La Biennale and history crossed one another in Venice”.

The catalogue includes the exhibition set-up and is illustrated with a selection of photographs and archival documents.
